Indoor Workouts – Staying Active, Even at Home

Even though we’re stuck at home, planning an indoor workout and nutrition strategy in advance will help you stay active!

  • Try a workout video – YouTube has lots of options or you can subscribe to a fitness streaming subscription, like Daily Burn, Grokker or FitnessGlo. We think it’s helpful to work out at home immediately during transition times of day – when you first wake up if you’re a morning person or after finishing up for the day if you’re working from home and want to exercise in the evening. This way you can’t get distracted!
  • Workout while watching your favorite show – Try doing circuits of cardio and body weight exercises while you watch TV. Do 1 minute of jumping jacks, 1 minute of push-ups, 1 minute of high-knees, 1 minute of squats, 1 minute of boxer-jumps and 1 minute of triceps dips. Check out fitness magazines or bloggers for ideas on what exercises to do. We recommend making sure the house is nice and cool so you don’t get too sweaty!
  • Get creativehere at Dairy MAX, we love working out with milk jugs! A gallon of milk full of fluid weighs about 8 pounds; save empty gallons and fill with water for DIY dumbbells (and don’t even worry about filling the gallons all the way to the top, they may be a little lighter, but leaving extra space in the top helps to tone complementary stabilizing muscles). You can do flys, bicep curls, lunges and squats with materials on hand! Google “Milk Jug Workout” for visuals. When you’re ready to take it to the next level, add sand, or rocks to the empty gallons to add extra weight.

Don’t forget to keep up a healthy diet, including foods from all five food groups to help you feel your best and get your best workout. Milk, especially, is a good food for after a workout since it provides fluid, carbohydrates, electrolytes and protein and may help your muscles recover faster.
