Athlete on the Moo-ve: Janelle Hodovic

As a mom, my days are packed! My little guy keeps me on my toes, along with work, the gym, swim lessons, play dates and of course making sure everyone eats dinner! I know that I’m not the only working mom who feels like every moment of her day is scheduled! I had the chance to catch up with Janelle Hodovic, a mom and registered dietitian, who makes sure her family stays active year-round!

Janelle is inspirational; she’s a runner, professor at a local university, fitness class instructor and mom of two young boys, all while holding a full-time job. With her busy schedule, Janelle makes sure that she fuels herself and her family: “Each week I spend time on meal prepping. The prep allows me to have more time to exercise during my lunch breaks and helps me make sure I don’t grab a quick bite that is unhealthy.”

Fitness runs in the family for Janelle – she makes sure that her kiddos see her being active and incorporates fitness into their daily routine. “When I’m practicing fitness routines at home my kids often join in and start doing the movements with me.”

Janelle often takes her boys with her to the gym, and sometimes after teaching fitness classes, she sets up a fun obstacle course and plays their favorite music. “My kids love to jump from one body step to the next, flex in the mirror and dance to their favorite songs at the gym,” said Janelle.

Making sure to refuel after exercise is important for the whole family, according to Janelle. “My kids are huge milk drinkers, they prefer milk over other snacks and go through four gallons of milk a week,” she explained. Chocolate milk is a favorite beverage to refuel with in Janelle’s house because it is a great source of protein and hydration.

Janelle works hard to ensure that she and her whole family are active and refuel through proper nutrition. She focuses on maximizing her time through online grocery shopping, meal prep and creating healthy and nutritious snacks for her boys to ensure her family can continue to stay on the moo-ve.
